Dr. George R. Greer, MD

Co-Founder, Senior Clinical Research Associate

Secretary / Treasurer

Dr. Greer is a psychiatrist in private practice, who for six years was Clinical Director of Mental Health Services for the New Mexico Corrections Department. From 1980 to 1985, he, along with his wife, a psychiatric nurse, conducted over 100 therapeutic sessions with MDMA for 80 individuals. Their review of this work remains the largest published study of the therapeutic use of MDMA. Dr. Greer has dedicated considerable effort to the process of bringing psychedelic agents into medical practice. He was involved in an extensive hearing process with the Drug Enforcement Administration to keep MDMA available for medical research, and coordinated a lobbying campaign in Congress to prevent restrictions on research with new psychedelic drugs. His interests in comparative religion, meditation and shamanism; his training in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology; and his administrative, legal and political experience will be valuable resources as the Institute's vision becomes a reality. Dr. Greer is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Past President of the New Mexico District Branch.
